"Look To The Light"
is officially out in stores and on its way to radio
stations across the country. Praise the Lord! It has
been nearly 4 years from the initial planning of this
recording to its actual release. That is a very long
time for sure, but we believe it was well worth the
wait. The end result is far beyond any expectation
I or co-producers Jesse Brock and John Miller had
when we first started this project. It is also very
ironic that the album launch date is exactly 20 years
since the release of my first studio recording "Out
Where The Wildflowers Grow." Where did the time
go?

A lot has happened since the earlier Gospel album post
(below). Barry Scott
recorded lead vocals to "Angel
At Your Side" and "He
Understands". Both came out just great and complement
the other twelve numbers on the album. John and Jesse added
some "celestial" harmonies to "Angel At Your
Side" that will take your breath away. Dale Ann
recorded a killer harmony part to "He Understands"
(a duet with Barry Scott as well as well as "Look
To The Light."
Congrats to the singers/musicians on the Gospel album who
were nominated and/or received awards at the 2009 IBMA convention.
Russell Moore - Nominated For Male Vocalist Of The
Year Dale Ann Bradley - Winner Of Female Vocalist Of The
Year Jesse Brock - Winner Of Mandolin Player Of The Year Junior Sisk - Nominated for Male Vocalist Of The
Year Ron Stewart - Nominated For Banjo Player Of The Year
Mike Cleveland - Winner Of Fiddle Player Of The Year
We also thrilled to report that Barry Scott has
been nominated for a Grammy for his recent Gospel release
"In God's Time" - way to go Barry!
That's it for now...
look for another update sometime in February.
I am very excited to announce that we have anew
recording in the works, slated for release in the spring
of 2010. It will be a Gospel Album of original material
I have written or co-written over the years. Three of the
14 songs are collaborations with my good songwriting buddies
Pete Goble (Bad News For The Devil), Ted DeMille
(Beautiful Hall) and Justin Carbone (Thirst & Hunger).
The working title is "Look
To The Light", and is being produced by Jesse
Brock and John Miller. Jesse is currently playing
mandolin with Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper - reigning
IBMA Instrumental Group of the year! John Miller is absolutely
the best rhythm guitar player I have ever known, and along
with Jesse, create a killer rhythm section which is unmistakably
the foundation of this recording.
In addition to their co-producing roles, Jesse and John
are both singing as well as playing on the album. Roger
Williams adds dobro and our dear friend Pete Soukas
plays bass on several of the tracks. The album is being
recorded at Thundering Sky Recording in South Berwick
Maine, engineered by Chris Magruder (studio owner).
Chris brings lots of experience and has a great understanding
of how to record acoustic music. For logistical considerations,
some of the tracks are being recorded at studios outside
the area including: Rice Recording, Damascus Virginia;
Riverside Audio, Mount Gilead, NC; The Sleepy
Valley Barn, Russell Springs, KY.
"Look
To The Light" will feature some notables
in the Bluegrass world including:
Russell Moore - vocals Dale Anne Bradley - vocals Junior Sisk - Vocals Jeff Parker - vocals Ron Stewart - banjo & fiddle Mike Cleveland - fiddle Wyatt Rice - guitar Ronnie Rice - bass
Below are some comments I recently received from Wayne
Bledsoe (Bluegrass Now Magazine & WKMST)...
Rick,
I'm just gotten off the road and this is
my first opportunity to touch base with you.
I've just about worn out the CD you gave me.
The songs are fabulous as is the production
work. I can hardly wait for it to come out.
While I've always been a fan of yours, this
is the best material I've ever heard. You're
an inspiring songwriter and you selected some
great talent to appear on this CD. Is there
any way I can get list of the song titles
and whose singing on each?
It was great visiting with you in Gettysburg
recently. Thanks for coming back stage and
sharing your new music with me. I hope our
paths cross again soon.
Thanks again for sharing your talent with
me.
With warm regards,
Wayne Bledsoe
We will keep you posted with
any new updates on the Gospel Album as they develop.
This winter Rick was busy recording a jingle he had written
last year for the United
Way of the Greater Seacoast entitled "It's
All About People". The song was created to pay
tribute to the very important work United Way does in our
local communities. The United Way staff was quite impressed
with Rick's tune, so much so, that they are using it for
a newpromotional campaign, which will
air on TV and radio during the month of April.
Produced by Mark Shilansky, and engineered by Huck Bennert,
the actual recording took place at a studio in Acton Mass
and included several prominent Boston area jazz musicians.
The song was sung by United Way of the Greater Seacoast
staff member, Lauren Wool - a gifted musician and singer
with an absolutely beautiful voice. Dave Mackey of Insight
Media spent two days filming United Way volunteers working
in the community to add the visual part of the spot.
The completed PSA will air on WMUR TV, Comcast cable and
NH public TV throughout the month of April. A radio version,
including an audio message, will air on several of the top
area radio stations to complement the TV campaign.
